Vocals and Percussion (2010-2011)
While there has been no formal training in music for Susan, just a member of a modestly musical family, you could call the music in her head pretty darn formal. She has been singing since she can remember and "making up" songs since she was 9. Her vocal influences have come from The Go-Go's, The B-52's, and later from The Sundays, Frente, Mazzy Star, and Fiona Apple. Too focused with school and other nonsense, it wasn't until 2003 that she picked up the guitar to see if she could release some of those tunes in her head only to have to put it on hiatus soon after to tend to life's other adventures as well as finish school. Upon moving to Austin, and with an unexpected moment of inspiration, in 2007 she began playing her guitar more and delved right into writing songs to make up for lost time. To start 2009, she joined an acoustic folk band of which she played with locally for a year. With the desire and encouragement to continue her musical needs, Susan turned a new page, a new focus, and a new start into the world of nerd rock and joined The Evildoers. |
