Kari K. can only be described musically if you start minus eighteen years ago when her father brought home a jukebox full of vintage 45's. Kari would spend days upon hours emulating the sounds of Janice Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Chicago, The Eagles and Carly Simon just to name a few. When her father sold the jukebox years down the road, Kari knew it was time to create songs she could sing.
From there, the singer spent all of her high school years writing music carbon-copied from her life and performed for her local draw of school friends at open mics and coffee shoppes. Her parents thought she would never take her career seriously enough for them to invest in a real guitar, so for years she would perform with a nylon guitar made and bought on the border of Mexico. Her friends all encouraged her to never give up, and at every party there would be small crowds gathering to listen to her original music and sing along to the familiar tunes she knew. In high school Kari also performed with a select few students from around the world to sing in the White House for Bill and Hillary Clinton and won all four of her high school talent shows for her original music performances.
In 2001, Kari went off to play NCAA soccer for the University of North Texas in Denton, putting her music career on the back burner. Since playing college soccer and taking fifteen hours of school is more than a full-time job, Kari was forced to play guitar on the streets of Dallas for money in between practice and school since no company would hire a student with such a schedule. Gaining the attention of patrons on the street, she quickly was invited to Dallas pubs and festivals and started making a name as an independent Singer/Songwriter. As years went by, the guilt of having to depend on her mother working three jobs to keep Kari at UNT to play soccer became unbearable for her, so she hesitantly retreated home to make a name for herself and make money with the talent she knew would profit.
These days, you will find Kari making music wherever she goes. She has since produced and engineered her own album as well as other award winning artists. She has won vocalist competitions and traveled through Texas and other parts of the US performing for crowds of all types and sizes with her former band, The Kari K Band. Recently, she has jumped onto The Evildoers project and finalized a musical force to be reckoned with. |
